Description
A construction crew working on the Junction Hollow Bridge along the Penn-Lincoln Parkway (Interstate 376), known locally as the Parkway East. The Junction Hollow Bridge, or Frazier Street Bridge as it is officially known, has two spans of 264 feet, three spans of 176 feet and one skew span over Swinburne Street. The total length, including the longest elevated ramp, is 1,060 feet. The height of the deck is 86 feet at Boundary Street, 60 feet at the CSX Railroad and 24 feet at Swinburne Street. Construction began on November 14, 1949, and was completed on October 15, 1952, at a cost of $1.85 million by B. Perini & Sons, Inc., of Framingham, Massachusetts. This is the only truss bridge constructed by the Pennsylvania Department of Highways along the length of the Penn-Lincoln Parkway.
