Description
The Fort Pitt Bridge, pictured still under construction, is a double-deck, steel bowstring arch bridge. The total length (including longest elevated ramp) is approximately 1217 feet with a deck height of 47.1 feet at the northern pier. The bridge carries Interstate 279, US22, US30 (Penn-Lincoln Highway West), and crosses the Monongahela River. Directly behind the bridge in the background is the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel still under construction. The Fort Pitt Bridge opened to traffic on June 19, 1959.
