Description
Trees surround the Fort Pitt Blockhouse in this photograph taken near the Point before completion of Point State Park. To the right of the Blockhouse is the caretaker’s house, which was demolished in 1966. In the background (left) are the first three buildings of Gateway Center before construction of the Hilton Hotel and the Gateway Towers Apartments, which would be located in front of the three Gateway Center buildings. Also, not yet constructed is the highway, which was to be built just beyond the Blockhouse between the Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne Bridges. To the right is the State Office building, one of several other buildings, which would make up the Gateway Center complex.
