  • Description
  • The Duquesne Works was located on the west bank of the Monongahela River in the City of Duquesne, Pennsylvania, about twelve miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The plant began operation on June 4, 1886, when a small group of Pittsburgh investors began construction of a small Bessemer converter shop and blooming mill to produce rails for the United State's railroads. On March 1, 1901, the Duquesne plant, along with Andrew Carnegie’s other holdings, became part of United States Steel Corporation.
