Description
The Heinz Chapel, located on the University of Pittsburgh campus next to the Cathedral of Learning and designed by Charles Klauder, was dedicated in 1938 and was a gift from Howard Heinz and his sons. The main notable features on the inside of the building are the intricate stone and wood carvings and the stained glass windows. The 23 different stained glass windows were made by Charles Connick and depict many famous figures from a variety of fields. The chapel is nondenominational and is often used for weddings. Note the Mellon Institute Building across Bellefield Avenue (behind and to the right of the chapel). Mellon Institute was constructed from 1931-1937 and was modeled after the Parthenon.
