Irenaeus Dougherty was the Sister of Mercy who founded the college in that same year. The college changed its name to Carlow College in 1969. The new name was derived from the village of Carlow in Ireland’s southeast Leinster province, home o the Sisters of Mercy. Today, the school offers more than 50 majors in business, education, nursing, management, natural sciences, mathematics, and technology.
