Description
The original Duquesne University (then the Pittsburgh Catholic College of the Holy Ghost) Library began in 1878 with a modest collection of books located on Wylie Avenue. In 1939 a new library building was constructed. A three-story addition to the library opened in November 1961 with construction completed in August 1962. The addition housed 250,000 volumes of materials. The building was donated to the School of Law in 1978 following the completion of a $5.2 million Library Resource Center on September 17, 1978. The building, which was constructed of brick with concrete panels and bronze tinted glass, was designed by Edward Gerard Associates. On February 3, 1955, the Library was renamed the Gumberg Library in honor of school alumni Stanley and Marcia Gumberg.
