Description
The Carnegie Library first started the Bookmobile service in 1952. The first bookmobile was a gift of the Wherrett Memorial Fund of the Pittsburgh Foundation. Today, thirty-two senior centers, assisted living facilities, residential homes, and sixty-four preschool classes are visited monthly by the bookmobile. The bookmobile is stocked with a wide variety of materials including 2000 books, videos, DVDs, CDs, audio books, and a public access computer for children and adults. Funded by the local community, local school district or local library, bookmobiles, which offer the same types of services that a stationary library provides, visit various communities in Allegheny County.
