Description
The Public Safety Building of the City of Pittsburgh seen from the corner of Grant Street and Fort Pitt Boulevard near the entrance of the ramp to the Parkway East in downtown Pittsburgh. The building, constructed in 1964 on the site of what had been the headquarters of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, housed the municipal courts and police administrative offices for nearly forty years. The property was sold to the PNC Corporation in 2002. Notice the old “safety islands” on Grant Street, which were intended for use by passengers waiting to board the trolley cars that were still operating in 1964.
