Description
Pig iron and steel scraps from Mestas Machine Company’s various development departments, including the Open-Hearth Steel Department and the Iron Foundry, were stored in this metal store yard. The 85-foot by 1200-foot storage area was serviced by four Gantry Electric Traveling Cranes, which carried materials to and from the store yard with electric magnets. A portion of the yard was used for storing scraps used for creating iron castings and rolls. The second half of the store yard was home to the iron and steel deposits the Open-Hearth Steel Department used to make castings, rolls, and forging ingots.
