Description
The Mesta Machine Company was one of the first manufacturers in the United States to build reversing rolling mill engines for driving two-high rolling mills. The compound type of reversing engine was the most successful of its type due to its heavy, rugged design, and its innovative simple valve gear and single lever control. Mesta produced various types of reversing engines, including twin cylinder, three cylinder high pressure or three cylinder compound, and twin tandem compound or three cylinder tandem compound engines. The Mesta Machine Company was one of the leading manufacturers of machine tool and steel mill equipment in the world during the first half of the twentieth century. Some of their other products included, forging presses, shears, cut and machine-molded gears, and various types of rolls used in rolling mills. In 1959 Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev visited the plant as part of his American tour.
