  • Mesta Machine Company produced gas and steam engines for blast furnaces, rolling mills, and power plants, at its Homestead, Pennsylvania facility. The plant, located about six miles from Pittsburgh, covered more than twenty acres and employed approximately three thousand employees, most of whom were skilled mechanics, in the early twentieth century. Mesta was one of the leading manufacturers of machine tool and steel mill equipment in the world during the first half of the twentieth century. Some of their other products included, forging presses, shears, cut and machine-molded gears, and various types of rolls used in rolling mills. In 1983 WHEMCO acquired the assets of Mesta Machine Company.
