Description
Garfield School, located on Garfield Hill, derived its name in honor of President James A. Garfield. The school was originally built in 1887 on North Atlantic Avenue, near Penn Avenue. The school underwent renovations in 1890, 1893, 1896, and 1900. Garfield School was permanently closed in June 1944 and the property was subsequently sold to a Catholic organization for $10,000.
