Description
Opened in 1847 as part of the Franklin Sub-District, Franklin School was originally a three-story building on Franklin and Logan Street, renamed in honor of Benjamin Franklin in 1869. The school was constructed with three large rooms measuring 60 feet by 37 feet each that featured attached classrooms measuring 24 feet by 14 feet. The school was renovated in 1890, permanently closing in 1939. The building was razed in 1940.
