Description
In 1962 the Pittsburgh public school system created the Occupational -Vocational- Technical training (OVT) Program. The OVT program’s primary goal was to provide students with the technical skills to enter a vocation following graduation. Students were instructed in courses such as construction, manufacturing, electronics, graphic arts, textiles, nutrition, and business. In the late 1970s 21,000 local Pittsburgh high school students participated in the OVT program, which offered forty-five courses of study. In addition, the program offered graduates job placement assistance.
