Description
The Schaeffer Elementary School is named in honor of Nathan C. Schaeffer, who served as the Superintendent of Public Instruction in the Crafton Heights area. The original four-story building was constructed at Belmont and Stratmore Avenues in 1908. It was closed in 1960 and a new building was constructed at its current location by the architectural firm of Franklin, Douden & Associates. Schaeffer Elementary School, a six-grade elementary school located at 1235 Clairhaven Street, serves the Pittsburgh communities of Crafton Heights, Greenway Park, and Sheraden.
