Description
Mother M. Irenaeus Dougherty was the founder of Mount Mercy College, located in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The school opened in 1929 as a four-year college for women with seven teachers and twenty-four students. The college changed its name to Carlow College in 1969. The new name was derived from the village of Carlow in Ireland’s southeast Leinster province, home of the Sisters of Mercy. The school offers more than 50 majors in business, education, nursing, management, natural sciences, mathematics, and technology.
