Description
Herron Hill took its name from the land surrounding the mansion of John Herron, mayor of Pittsburgh, 1849-1850. The mansion, located in the Minersville area, was ravaged by fire in 1877. Herron Hill Junior High School, designed by architects Avalon and Center, opened in 1928. The school was closed in 1974, and after extensive remodeling, reopened as the Margaret Milliones Middle School. The school, located at 3117 Centre Avenue, is known today as the Margaret Milliones Technical Academy.
