Description
The Miller Elementary School, located at 61 Reed Street, serves the Lower Hill District neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh. It has the distinction as being the first African-Centered public elementary school in Western Pennsylvania. The school offers African-Center curriculum including African drumming and dance classes. The school, which was originally designed by architect J.B. Elliot, opened in 1905. It was apart of the Moorhead School District until it was annexed by the City of Pittsburgh. In 1939 architect M.M. Steen designed an auditorium for the school.
