Description
Man looking up at mural in the Italian Room. The Italian classroom, room 116, was created by architect Ezio Cerpi of Florence in a 15th century Renaissance theme. It features an original Renaissance fireplace from a 15th-century home in Florence bearing the Latin inscription “O Lord do not forsake me", olivewood panels bearing the names of Italian notables such as Dante Alighieri, Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Galileo, and the names and founding dates of Italian Universities. The first bench carries the mane of Europe's oldest University, founded in Bologna in 1088. The room was dedicated May 14, 1949.
