Description
The 6th Street Bridge seen here was designed by John A. (Augustus) Roebling, builder of the Brooklyn Bridge. According to Walter Kidney, it was the third and final bridge Roebling built in Pittsburgh. The bridge stood at this location from 1857 to 1892. Toll booths at one time collected as much as two cents per man, woman, and child that crossed. This was reduced to one cent per man, with women and children free. A family would pay $4 for a year.
