Biographical / Historical

The South Pittsburgh Reporter has been published since 1939 covering the South Pittsburgh neighborhoods. In the 1970's, The Reporter was edited by Roberta Smith and from 1979 to 2000 Tom Smith worked alongside Roberta (his mother) editing and publishing the newspaper. Tom became editor and publisher for The Reporter in 2000 after Roberta retired. Tom's public service to many of the South Pittsburgh neighborhoods provided a robust weekly newspaper up to 2023. In July-August 2022, The Reporter became available online and was no longer printed. In March 2023, the newspaper was transferred to and is currently published online by Foo Conner who continues to cover news for South Pittsburgh neighborhoods. The website is sopghreporter.com.
