Description
Close up of the stone relief of Catahecassa Blackhoof on the Catahecassa Spring Fountain. In February, 2017 the Catahecassa Spring Monument (as well as Howe Spring and Voegtly Spring) were designated Historic City Monuments. According to the nomination form for the Catahecassa Spring to become a historic monument, presented by Preservation Pittsburgh at some point the basin was removed and the access to the spring filled in. It now serves as a marker near the Catahecassa spring, near Neill Log House. The plaque below the stone relief of Catahecassa reads: Catahecassa, Blackhoof, war chief of the Shawnees, was present at the defeat of Braddock in 1755 and took part in all subsequent wars until the treaty of Greenville in 1795, after which he remained a friend and ally of the United States.
