Description
Monongahela River Wharf improvement looking west toward the Wabash Bridge from station 25+69 to station 26+23 showing removed muck for backfill. This is the future home to what is known as Mon Wharf parking. A longtime commercial area in combination with Water Street which ran immediately above, the area was the landing point for commerce and trade. Water Street, which ran above the slopes of the wharf, was originally home to warehouses and office buildings. Once automobiles became popular, it also served as a parking area. Most of the wharf became submerged once the Ohio River dam was built.
