  • The Neill Log House sits in a corner of the Bob O’Connor Golf Course in Schenley Park on East Circuit Road. It dates to 1795 and was built by Robert Neill, who owned the 262-acre tract of land at the time. The land was later acquired by Mary Schenley’s maternal grandfather, Gen. James O’Hara, and inherited by her in 1850. Mary Schenley rented the house and land to tenant farmers before donating it to the City of Pittsburgh for a park. After the golf course was built in 1902, the Neill Log house was used as a rest stop for golfers and as a maintenance building. It was restored by Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation in 1969, but the double fireplace and chimney are original. The Neill Log House was designated a Historic Structure by the City of Pittsburgh in 1977 and was a contributing factor for Schenley Park being put on the National Park Service’s list of National Historic Places.
