Description
When the Squirrel Hill Theater was demolished in 2021, the power plant that provided central heating and refrigeration to all the buildings in the Thomas A. Watkins development around Forward and Murray Avenues was briefly exposed before a new building rose on the site of the theater. The openings were later sealed with concrete during construction of the new building. The massive smokestack for the power plant is on the right. The buildings on Maeburn Road behind the power plant are some of the 46 apartment buildings of various sizes Watkins built as part of his development. The Kraus Commons building on the far right was built in 2017-18 on the site of Poli restaurant.
