Description
An image of Gulf's Research Laboratory. The caption states: "The paint exposure test rack is located on the roof of the Research Laboratory and is of standard design and direction of exposure as specified for this purpose by the American Society of Testing Materials. Duplicate installations are also located Houston, Beaumont, Fort Worth and Midland in Texas, Jenks, Oklahoma and El Dorado, Arkansas. Upon these racks are placed panels coated with various combinations of primers, vehicles and pigments, some being applied to the panels by brushing and some by spraying. A yearly inspection of all racks is made and permanent records taken by photographing the panels individually. At present, powders, vehicles, primers and methods of application of aluminum coatings are being studied in order to determine the best coating for the exterior of storage tanks, buildings, and other equipment."
