Description
An image of Gulf's Research Laboratory. The caption states: "The machine at the left is hydraulically operated by the three-piston pump at the extreme right of the photograph and has a capacity of 100,000 pounds either in tension or compression. The force being exerted is measured and indicated by a hydraulic pendulum dynamometer shown second from the right in the photograph. The pendulum ratio can be varied to give respective maximum capacities of 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 pounds thereby providing great flexibility at maximum accuracy for a wide range of work. The pulsator, second from left, furnished a means for converting the static testing machine into an axially loaded tension or compression fatigue machine. The limits of vibratory loading can be regulated at will to values between 0 and 50,000 pounds. The equipment is invaluable in the development of higher quality pumping equipment. "
