  • Even though the automobile began to appear on the dusty streets of the village of Monroeville, the family horse and buggy was to remained a staple, and a familiar part of the landscape. Streets were unpaved; following well-worn paths through the fields and woods. Some roads had been improved, but in the first part of the 1900s, life in the little farming community was pretty much as it had been for the past hundred years.
