Description
Gas Wells appeared in Monroeville in the early 1900s. The rush to find coal had led to the discovery of pockets of natural gas. The first gas pipeline to Pittsburgh began at the Haymaker Well in Murrysville in the 1870s. In the 1880s, the owners of the Haymaker well, reorganized themselves into the Peoples Natural Gas Company, and more than 100 wells were to be drilled in the region around the Haymaker Well.
