Description
Robert Johnston, and his brother William, were twins and sons of John and Elizabeth Campbell Johnston -- among the very first settlers in the area. Captain Robert served in the American Revolutionary War and was a wagon master in the cavalry, while William served under General Anthony Wayne. William’s land (“Oak Hill”) was a few miles from today’s Turtle Creek; while Robert was granted a 321-acre tract, known as “Bramble,” in the center of today’s Monroeville, along the Northern Turnpike. Robert, and his wife Margaret, would live on the family farm in Patton Township until their deaths (in 1828, and 1815, respectively.
