Description
Photo shows snow-covered Thorn Hill School property and entrance road facing east at the Allegheny - Butler county line. A three story house is seen on the left with a barn and other outbuilding on the right. The Thorn Hill School was established in 1910 and closed in 1979. Over the years it was known by serveral names including: Allegheny County Industrial and Training School for Boys, Thorn Hill School of Allegheny County, Warrendale Youth Development Center (1962), Warrendale Correctional Center. The school was created as a training center for boys under the age of 16 who were sent over from Allegheny County Juvenile Court.
