Description
View of the river channelization project undertaken for flood protection. Following the 1936 flood, 15,000 people wrote letters to President Franklin D. Roosevelt imploring him to build a flood prevention infrastructure. Under the auspices of the Works Progress Administration, about 7,000 workers helped to rehabilitate the town following the flood, and the Army Corps of Engineers was allocated $8.7 million to channelize the rivers.
