Description
Progress Photograph Number 29 of the William Penn Hotel. The hotel was designed by Janssen and Abbot and the construction engineer was James L. Stuart. This is the last photograph in the collection, and it was taken the day the William Penn hotel opened for business. The brick and stone work has been completed and the three internal towers that form an atrium are also visible. Photograph possibly taken from the top of Kaufmann's Department store. And the lights that illuminate the front of the Leader building are also visible, and the white diamond pattern on the Davis Theater is also visible. Most importantly, construction of the Union Arcade building is visible in the foreground of this building. In many photographs of the Union Arcade building collection, the William Penn hotel is also visible.
