Description
A portrait of Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955), the founder of the Daytona Normal and Industrial Institute for Negro Girls (Bethune Cookman College). She was also Director of Negro Affairs in the National Youth Administration from 1936-1944, and appointed consultant on interracial affairs and understanding at the charter conference of the U.N. Founder of the National Council of Negro Women, and Vice-president of the NAACP. She is shown here sitting behind a table decorated with flowers. She is wearing a large floral corsage on a plain dark dress.
