Description
Supermodel Naomi Sims poses with Dr. Herman Reed and Alfred Morris at a NEED annual dinner in Pittsburgh. Sims attended Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh before moving to New York to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. From there she launched a successful career as a fashion model 1967-1973, becoming the first black model to appear on the cover of national fashion, womens', and news publications. NEED was founded in 1963 as the Negro Educational Emergency Drive in order to raise funds to allow black high school students to attend college, and it continues to support higher education for African Americans today.
