Russell J. Klages was a Pittsburgh resident who served as a private in the South Pacific during World War II. He toured in the South Pacific from 1942 until he was killed in action in the Philippines. Klages was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star.
The Russell J. Klages Papers and Photographs consist of correspondence, family mementos and photographs. The papers mostly concern the World War II military service of Mr. Klages through routine correspondence to his sister, Ethel Klages Cristian, as well as formal military notices of his death in the Pacific. The collection also contains the personal bible of Mr. Klages, notice of a posthumous Purple Heart Award and photographs of Mr. Klages, his sister and brother-in-law.
