This collection includes the petition sent by electrical engineering students to establish a chapter of Eta Kappa Nu Association at the University of Pittsburgh. The petition includes the signatures, photograph, and a biography of each petitioning member; letters of endorsement from University of Pittsburgh administration and the Eta Kappa Nu chapter at Carnegie Institute of Technology and Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter; a description of the University and School of Engineering in 1937; and photographs and descriptions of engineering laboratories and faculty. Also included are the membership certificate of petitioning member William H. Erickson and the Eta Kappa Nu governing documents from 1956.
Eta Kappa Nu is an electrical engineering, and since 2000 computer engineering, honor society that was founded in 1904 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2010, Eta Kappa Nu became a unit of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The Beta Delta Chapter at the University of Pittsburgh was officially founded in May 14, 1937, and membership is restricted to the top fourth of the junior class and top third of the senior class.
