Description
Located on Wood Street and Sixth Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh, the German National Bank, later known as the Granite Building, was designed by architects Bickel and Brennan in 1888-1890. The bank was originally founded in 1860 for the convenience of the Pittsburgh’s German community. It allowed German speakers to conduct their banking business in their native language. The building was remodeled in the 1930s and once again in the late 1980s.
