Description
Isaac and Gertrude Seder are pictured here. Isaac Seder was a boy of nine when he came to the United States from Russia about 1885. He was a philanthropist and active in Pittsburgh's Jewish community. He and his partners in the Frank and Seder Department Store were major contributors to the building of the new Montefiore Hospital. Isaac Seder contributed financially to a variety of causes, including education and public welfare organizations and institutions. He served as a trustee for Tree of Life Synagogue, was a member of Rodef Shalom Congregation, and a trustee of Hebrew Institute. After his death in 1924, his wife continued his philanthropic work. She endowed the Isaac Seder Education Center of the YM&WHA and the outpatient clinic at Montefiore Hospital, both dedicated to her late husband. She also donated the Abraham Friedberg Eye Clinic to Riverview Center in memory of her brother.
