Description
This is a photograph of the future site of the Frank and Seder Department Store. Isaac Seder began his career in the mercantile business selling wholesale women’s wear with his partner Jacob H. Frank before moving to retail sales in 1907, when they opened a store in downtown Pittsburgh. Bennie Neiman, of Neiman's Department Store, located in downtown Pittsburgh as well, became a partner with them. With the success of their store, they expanded and opened a newly constructed building on Fifth Avenue and Smithfield Street in 1918. The business eventually expanded outside the region, with branches in Philadelphia, Detroit, and New York City.
