Description
This photograph shows the arrangement of Berry Hall dormitory room #39 which belonged to Martha Fergus O'Neil, Mary Wolverton Arthurs, Jean W. Acheson, and Jane C. McDonald from 1885 to 1886. Berry Hall was the original building of the College and contained a library, dining room, offices, laboratories, and dormitory rooms. It was a three story red brick home belonging to George A. Berry that was sold to the trustees in 1870. The College added a music hall to the building in 1871 and enlarged it again to increase dormitory space by building a new music hall and gymnasium addition in 1895. The building served as the hub of campus until Mellon Hall was acquired in 1940. It was demolished in 1953 to make room for Braun, Falk, and Coolidge Halls.
