Description
In this photograph, Peggy Donaldson is standing beside Janis Greene, Assistant Professor in Family Living, who is seated at the far right. Ms. Donaldson graduated from Chatham in 1944 with a degree in mathematics and began a 42-year long career at the College in 1948. Working in the Admissions, Community Services, and Annual Fund Offices, Donaldson work impacted the future of the College in many ways. She helped increase Chatham's involvement in continuing education and special programs for the community. She helped start new summer programs such as the Summer Music and Art Day Camp, as well as direct the development of educational and career planning workshops and seminars. For her dedication to the College, Peggy won the Distinguished Alumna Award in 1984. When she retired in 1990, she was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters at the commencement ceremony where her mother, Alice Greer Donaldson (class of 1916), and her sister, Gretchen Donaldson (class of 1953), were also present. In addition, Peggy won the Trustees Award for Distinguished Service in 1999. Ms. Donaldson was also active in the League of Women Voters, the National Association of Women Business Owners, the Executive Women's Council, and the Black and White Reunion Summit. After her retirement, she volunteered in fund raising and increasing the exposure of the College. Peggy died in 2004 at the age of 82.
