Description
The construction of Woodland Hall was completed in September 1909 and was part of a campus building plan that was cut short by the Great Depression. Originally called "South Hall", the first reference to "Woodland Hall" appears in 1911. Positioned on top of a hill, the four-story, red-brick building has a veranda that overlooks Woodland Road. The dormitory was built and furnished with much financial support from the Alumnae Association. In 1929, an addition was made on the south end of the Hall which included enlargement of the kitchen and new dormitory rooms for 50 additional students, enabling students from Berry Hall to move while reconstruction took place there. This new addition transformed Woodland Hall to an "L" shape. In 1952, more dormitory rooms were added, bring occupancy up to 130 students.
