Description
The Chapel was the first building erected in the extensive building program of College President Paul Anderson. Ground was broken in June 1948 and the cornerstone was laid in February 1949. It was dedicated on May 6, 1950 in combination with a funeral service for Mrs. Charles H. Spencer who was the Chapel's alumna benefactor and a trustee of the College. The organ in the Chapel is a four manual Möller which was designed by Russell G. Wichmann, professor of music. Previous to the Chapel, worship services and campus meetings were held in the first floor of Dilworth Hall, which is shown here to the left of the Chapel. The new Chapel seats 825 and also has a meditation room, a lounge with kitchenette, offices, and a choir robing room on the lower floor.
