Description
Shown here is the assembly room in Dilworth Hall, which was completed in 1889 and named after a member of the College's first Board of Trustees. Dilworth Hall was a three story red pressed brick building which served the College for more than 60 years. The second and third floors contained dormitory rooms, an art studio with sky lights, laboratories, and classrooms. The entire first floor was dedicated to the assembly hall, which was also used as a chapel and auditorium, because it had room to seat 650 people. The woodwork was light and the walls were tinted in Venetian red. Alumnae contributed a Tiffany stain glass window which contained the school's motto, "That our daughters may be as cornerstones polished after the similitude of a palace."
