Description
This 14 room, grey brick mansion was built by John Richard and Anna Milligan Gregg around 1909 when they moved to Shadyside from Pittsburgh's North Side. John Richard Gregg (1847-1932) was a grocer and later a tanner and shoe maker. Before moving to Shadyside, Anna was active in the YWCA located in the North Side. They were early members of the religious group called the Covenanters. John's brother, David, was the President of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. The Gregg family donated the house to the Pennsylvania College for Women in 1945 where it was immediately used to replace the Lindsay House as the residence of the College President. Dr. and Mrs. Paul Russell Anderson were the first ones to use the house.
