  • The Norwegian Nationality Room is built to resemble a cottage and comes complete with Grandfather Clock, and a fireplace. The professors chair is carved with dragons' and beasts' heads to ward off evil, while a tapestry in the back of the room depicts a biblical parable of the five wise and five foolish virgins. The Norwegian Room was dedicated on May 15, 1948. This room, along with twenty five other Nationality Rooms all with different architectural styles, was conceived in the 1920s by sociologist Ruth Crawford Mitchell as a means of linking the university with the immigrant culture of the steel working families.
