Description
The future site of the University of Pittsburgh’s Field House, also known as the Fitzgerald Field House. It was named after Rufus H. Fitzgerald, the Chancellor of Pitt from 1944-1955. The building serves as the home of many of the school’s sports teams, including wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics, and indoor track and field. The basketball teams recently moved to nearby Peterson Events Center in 2002. The facility, which opened in 1951, can currently accommodate 6800 people. The tall structure in the background is the Cathedral of Learning, the second tallest education building in the world.
