Description
Bloom Clippers outside the blooming mill at the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation’s Aliquippa Works. Blooming mills, also called slabbing mills, prepared the metal by reducing it to blooms, billets, slabs, and sheets-bars. The blooms, semi-finished hot rolled products that are rectangular in cross section, were shipped to the finishing mills to be processed further. These mills produced the various shapes, forms, and sizes that were sold to customers through the warehouses and offices maintained by Jones & Laughlin in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Saint Louis, and other locations throughout the United States.
